Central Texas is home to plants that are adapted to our unusual climate and soils, but many of those plants are not widely available commercially, and they grow more rare everyday. By sharing our local seeds, Central Texas Seed Savers encourages gardeners to grow plants that may otherwise go extinct due to pressures like habitat loss, animal grazing and more.

Seed Libraries
Our volunteer network supports 15+ local seed libraries. In partnership with Austin Public Library and other organizations, library patrons borrow and share seeds via seed collections.

Seed Banking
Vegetable seeds that are well-adapted to Central Texas and produce viable seeds are very hard to find. We will protect these seeds long-term in our seed vault and grow these crops on our farm.

Seed Swaps
Free and open to the public, our seed swap events allow gardeners to share their successes and seeds, building community while preventing extinction.

Fruit Savers
Fruit trees are essential to a sustainable local food system. Our Fruit Savers program provides education and swaps to prevent extinction of fruit trees.

Seed to Tree Partnership
Our volunteers collect seeds from native trees to share with TreeFolks to grow in their Seeds to Trees Native Nursery. The resulting saplings are planted via TreeFolks’ reforestation programs.
